Harper College Adopts Blackboard Mobile to Help Drive Graduation Rates

Harper College wanted to provide mobile access to campus services and information with the ultimate goal of increasing graduation rates. That's when Harper decided to adopt Blackboard Mobile Central as part of its long-term strategy to enhance engagement and help students "finish what they started" and produce more college graduates.

"Research shows that student outcomes improve when they are more involved and engaged," said Patrick Bauer, chief information officer at Harper College. "Mobile extends the functions of our campus in a way that makes sense for community college students who are commuting, working full-time, and balancing personal and family obligations. Emory Mobile Expands to other Smartphones

Emory Communications and Marketing announced the release of the Emory Mobile application for the Android and BlackBerry smartphones in April of 2011, which included access to the Emory directory and Emory and Oxford campus maps, among other features.

Though the three apps offer many of the same features such as access to Eagles sports scores and the Wheel, some are available exclusively on certain smartphones. Only BlackBerry users can acquire location information for dining areas around campus, view the Emory YouTube account and browse the Emory events calendar.

LOYOLA UNIVERSITY CHICAGO

Once Loyola Mobile went live in Fall 2010, Loyola University Chicago’s Marketing department created a splash for Loyola Mobile on the home page and the response was overwhelming; in the first semester the Loyola Mobile iPhone app was downloaded over 2,500 times, and averaged 70 to 80 downloads a week as they approached the end of the semester.

Now LUC is poised for the new release of Loyola Mobile, and it has some significant additions for users. For the first time, the Blackboard Mobile Learn app is incorporated into Blackboard Mobile Central for the iPhone and will sit on the springboard along with three other new apps. Mobile users no longer have to do two separate downloads, nor do they have to go to separate locations on their mobile device. Because Blackboard is so widely used at LUC, it is an especially nice convergence of the two applications. Read More.
